MK: Rebirth Skepticism
« on: June 08, 2010, 05:18:45 PM »

Okay, chances are you guys have already seen this on either Youtube or on io9.com, but I figured I'd post the link over here anyway.

Possible new Mortal Kombat movie?

This seems a bit too polished, with too many actual actors and not faceless extras in it.
IMDB has Mortal Kombat listed for 2013, so I'm assuming this is the trailer for that.

Am I the only one alive that rolls my eyes at the films' portrayals of Johnny Cage?  For crying out loud, he was one of Earth's mightiest warriors and also the only person alive that could do the shadow kick without magical enhancements!
Also, rebooting the MK franchise into a serial killer type tale just makes me cringe.  IT'S A STORY ABOUT PEOPLE FROM ANOTHER DIMENSION COMING TO EARTH TO HOLD A FIGHTING COMPETITION.  It doesn't have to be "gritted" up or made more "realistic;" for as many faults as the original film had with it, it got the basic premise right, at least.

Color me annoyed.

Jeri Ryan sheds light on MK: Rebirth
« Reply #1 on: June 09, 2010, 06:54:33 AM »

Jeri Ryan explains via Twitter a little about Mortal Kombat: Rebirth and how "it's not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a re-imagined MK film."

Ryan said she did her role as a favor to a friend and that she has "No idea yet what WB's reaction to it was"

Now this is coming from Kotaku and of course anyone following would know about the lawsuit that's been filed by the development partner of the original film as it signed a contract in 2006 to do a sequel(s).

So pretty much this "Mortal Kombat: Rebirth" thing is on the same line as the two Street Fighter fan films that came out about a month ago.

Street Fighter: Beginnings End and Street Fighter: Legacy

As far as this new MK thing - I'd be fibbing if I didn't say my interests wasn't piqued. I really want to see where this is going.
