[STAFF] Games to Film Movie Watch
« on: October 20, 2008, 07:50:39 PM »

Cold Fear (2008) - It is the Survival Horror story of a U.S. Coast Guard who has been sent in to investigate a mysterious Russian whaler in the middle of the Bering Strait.

Fear Effect (2008) - It was shooter and one of the first cel-shaded FPS games to come out back in the day for the PSX. The original story was that the daughter of a Hong Kong Triad boss disappears and a trio of mercenaries looks for her. The twist was that they were not hired to find the girl; in fact their intentions are to find the girl before her father's men locate her and hold her for ransom.

Area 51 (2009) - Back in 1998 when this game came out it was an Arcade rail fps shooter about escaped aliens and busty military women; You were a part of a tactical squad called STAAR and had to stop the aliens. Later they actually made a sequel - don't ask me what the game was about, but know that much later Midway games took it upon themselves to remake the game with an actual story and plot. Midway even threw some money at it to even go as far as getting in David Duchovny (X-Files), Marilyn Manson, and Powers Boothe (Sin City, Deadwood) in on it. The story was pretty much something about a government cover-up .. aliens were there -you get to shoot them .. or something. Back in 2004 Paramount bought the rights to release the movie but hadn't said nothing much aboot it since.

Castlevania (2009) - WS Anderson wants to take a stab at Dracula. No details (officially) how this will go down - but it’s a sure bet a Belmont will have a hand in the demise of olde "Dracul".

Clock Tower (2009) - OKAY .. regulars of this site will know that you CANNOT buzz through this site without running into something survival horror related. It’s like a party with US PEOPLES! Hit or miss you can expect a review of some kind on some level. Right now on the Capcom Movie watch the posters for Clock Tower are up and ready to be ogle. Seriously .. check it out.

Halo (2009) - This is kind of an ON again OFF again and ON again .. I wouldn't be surprised if WETA is all up in this; they've been suspiciously cranking out HALO statues and figurines. Hell they built Space Marine Armor and a functional Warthog. It’s not outside the realm of reason they're rocking Spartan Armor and Covenant concepts.

Kane & Lynch (2009) - Bruce Willis expressed interest in this; if he's in on it or not - we'll see. the story goes like this Kane and Lynch were on their way to death row; in Kane's case it was for crimes committed in Venezuela - so midway to Death Row they’re busted out and dragged to a mall; turns out its the guys from the Venezuela job called "the7" and they want to get revenge - however a deal is struck with Kane to recover an item within 3 weeks and/or they'll kill his wife and daughter. Hilarity ensues .. and by hilarity people get shot.

The Legend of Spyro (2009) - If it is anything like the original game it should be fun.

Metal Gear Solid (2009) - Kojima's actually been fielding questions on this; not saying much but if and when it happens he's going to have a steady hand in how the story is handled.

Onimusha (2009) - Ninjer lovin munster battlin' goodness by the guy who brought you the first 'Silent Hill' movie.

Sabotage 1943 (2009) - Uwe Boll is on this one. Sabotage 1943 will be shot back-to-back with BloodRayne 3; the latter of which Boll wants to shoot in Croatia.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009) - This movie at the time of this writing is pretty much done and DONE. So it’s just a matter of time we may be getting a trailer; its already been announced that a Blu-Ray version of the Epic Jean-Claude Van Damme ruminate Universal films classic Street Fighter. You can pretty much bet there will be more to report upon the release of the highly-anticipated home release of Street Fighter IV.

Spy Hunter (2009) - This was for the longest time a Dwayne Johnson action vehicle. Pun intended - but nothing is being said too much about if and when its coming out or who it'll star. But the original Spy Hunter was an arcade classic from 1983 about a high speed spy car (called the G-6155 Interceptor) against enemy operatives. The Interceptor even transforms into a cigarette boat - and to help you in-game is a weapons van that outfits your vehicle with new weapons upgrades; including but not limited to a surface to air missile. All this to the theme of Peter Gunn - Good Tymes!

The Suffering (2009) - The story revolves around Torque, a man who has been convicted and sentenced to death for murdering his wife and two children; although he claimed to have blacked out at the time and can't remember anything about it. So on the night Torque arrives there is an earthquake; which releases an army of monsters kept (hidden) in the facility.

Tekken (2009) -It's gonna happen ~ eventually. It's been filmed. With the recent announcement of the upcoming Tekken 6 (game) as a multi-platform release for the 360 and PS3; a formal announcement of the Tekken movie cannot be too far behind.

Warcraft (2009) and/or World of Warcraft (2011) - They got the money and that CG animation for their cut scenes is fucking bad ass ~bring on the Elvin whores .. yeah baby!

Bioshock (2010) - It's one of those games where it has to be seen to be AMAZED. And there is the Bioshock 2 game in production. Right now it appears Gore Verbinski, the director of Pirates of the Caribbean wants to take a stab at working this into a feature; it’s not on this list for a reason but its been rumored/reported he wants to do a movie about 'Second Life' too (WTF indeed).

Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars (2010) – The prospect for this movie franchise was announced in 2007 and that Charles Cecil had begun the work of bringing the game franchise to theaters - starting with Templars. Don’t worry if you don’t remember this game

Driver (2010) - Driver: You Are the Wheelman was originally about an Undercover New York Cop in the role of a getaway driver that gains the confidence of gang bosses by executing driving related jobs.

Earthworm Jim (2010) - I'll believe it when I see it ~one of the awesomest Saturday morning cartoons like EVER back in the day. For those not in the know; Jim is an earthworm endowed with the powers of an ultra-high-tech-indestructible-super-space-cyber-suit created by Professor Monkey-For-A-Head that fell out of the sky after it was lost by Psy-Crow. Jim has a best friend named Peter Puppy and a heroine in distress archetype Princess What's-Her-Name. What's-Her-Name also has a "evil" twin sister Slug-for-a-Butt .. who's a Queen with a Slug-for-a-Butt named The Evil Queen Pulsating, Bloated, Festering, Sweaty, Pus-filled, Malformed, Slug-for-a-Butt. Of course you can't forget her Bounty Hunter Psy-Crow, Evil the Cat and his Henchrat or Bob the Killer Goldfish and his huge enormous cat minion Number 4. And of course there’s Snott, the giant booger who lives in the backpack of Jim's super suit.

Gears of War (2010) - In the original game an emergency pardon had been enacted allowing COG Solider Marcus Fenix back in action to help Delta Squad fight back an invading force of Locust Horde; a subterranean enemy threat to the humans of the fictional planet Sera.

God of War (2010) - This is the story of Spartan Army Captain Kratos who is on orders from the Goddess Athena to kill Ares, the god of war. Universal studios want to make it happen but tapped Brett Ratner to direct.

Joust (2010) – When this movie was announced it drew more jokes than support; considering the source material you can’t help but question it – but anyone balls enough to commit a script to it deserves a look-see. Joust was an arcade game about knights who ride atop ostrich type creatures and try to get a run and smash on other knights who also ride atop ostriches.

King of Fighters (2010) – SNK Fighting game classic makes a swing for the fences with action star Maggie Q and Ray Park .. oh, and that guy from Never Back Down (Sean Faris) .

Mortal Kombat (2010) – Is it a reboot or a ‘Kontinuation’ (coff*coff).. yeah that one kinda had dust on it. Last bit of news on this I remember is that they built a whole facility dedicated to the production of this movie somewhere is Louisiana. MortalKombat.com is no help – they hadn’t updated anything since MK: Deception (2005).

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010) – I think the story will borrow from the three games that make up the previous run of Prince of Persia games before ‘World of Corruption’. The story of Sand of Time begins in Azad, the Vizier of the Maharajah tricks the Prince into releasing the Sands of kept inside the Hourglass of Time, using the Dagger of Time. Once it broke the sand inside the hourglass spilled out and washed over the kingdom, turning everyone into monsters. However the Prince, Princess Farah, and the Vizier remain unchanged; each one has an artifact that protected them from the effects of the sand; a dagger, a medallion, and a staff. The Prince teams with Princess Farah to return the Sands of Time to the hourglass; using the Dagger of Time.

Resident Evil 4 (2010) - The live-action follow up will hopefully set to explain and seal the deal on the Live-action run of Resident Evil movies and show what you can do with a Million Millas

Splinter Cell (2010) - I’m kind of surprised this one took as long as it did to adapt to a movie considering it’s a Tom Clancy story. From the guy that pretty much political intrigue badass with Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. The first Splinter Cell introduces an elite Black-Ops agent named Sam Fisher. When two C.I.A. operatives go missing in T' bilisi, Georgia, Sam is sent in by the Third Echelon to investigate. He discovers that the Georgian president is conspiring with mercenaries (and computer experts) for a master plan.

Army of Two (2011) - Elliot Salem and Tyson Rios are two ex-Army Rangers turned Mercenaries for a Private Military Corporation. Over the course of a decade and a half (1993 - 2009); they are caught up in a complex scheme to privatize the military, and see to the plot's downfall.

Tekken - Only reason to watch this P.O.S. on DVD is because of Luke Goss (Blade II, Hellboy II) and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Mortal Kombat). That's right mother bitches .. Shang Tsung is gonna be Heihachi. - Can't be as bad as DOA, right?

Isnt that what we said about about house of the dead? Then DOA came out.

Kotaku reports the following ...

"Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) has purchased the rights to a 2007 Wall Street Journal article by Alexandra Alter about a sordid Second Life love affair between a married man and his in-game wife."

Yeah - so this'll pretty much be the last time we'll speak of this ....

« Reply #4 on: December 21, 2008, 08:51:54 AM »

Don't know how this was missed but Variety reports the following about a Live Action 'King of Fighters' movie.

Maggie Q (Die Hard 4, MI:3, Balls of Fury) has joined the cast of King of Fighters, an English-language, live-action adaptation of the best-selling Japanese video game now filming in Vancouver.

Directed by Hong Kong's Gordon Chan, the movie also stars Sean Faris, Ray Park, Will Yun Lee and David Leitch, who doubles as action choreographer.

The $12 million action pic is a co-production of Taiwan's Double Edge Entertainment, Japan's Micott & Basara, Inferno Entertainment from the U.S., the U.K.'s Scion Films, Axis Entertainment, Convergence Entertainment and Singapore's Innoform Media.

Production will wrap in mid-January, with the movie scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2009.

Don't know who she'll play in the movie - All of it just kind of happened.

Halo: The Fall of Reach (spoilers)
« Reply #5 on: December 22, 2008, 02:31:09 PM »

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl writer Stuart Beattie wrote a spec script based on Eric Nylund's book, Halo: The Fall of Reach. (and) It's not connected to the Peter Jackson Halo film project which has since been killed indefinately. Beattie wrote the script on the hopes that someone will bring it to the silver screen. Apparently its still only a spec, but Beattie says he's in talks with Microsoft to get the movie made. And so here goes the part where the scribe lays out the script's plot in his own words:

"It sets up a world 500 years in the future and we have colonies, there's the UNSC, there's the secret Spartan training program. And you see this six-year-old kid kidnapped in the middle of the night... The character doesn't start off as Master Chief. He starts off as John, who's the kid that's kidnapped and told he's going to be a soldier. Anyone can connect with a kid kidnapped from his own home. You're along for that journey. The Covenant comes along halfway through that movie. That gives you half the movie to really get to know everyone and care about everyone. And then when the Covenant come along, it's the first time John sees a grunt or a jackal or an elite. The audience is trying to figure out everything at the same time as the characters are. What are these aliens? Why are they killing us? What did we do? And realizing it's all about this Halo ring. And then ending the movie where the first game begins."

Gears of War: TM is like Lord of the Rings but "harder"
« Reply #6 on: January 24, 2009, 08:33:37 AM »

Live Free Or Die Hard director Len Wiseman is helming the Gears movie and co-writing it with Fast & Furious scribe Chris Morgan.

This is one of those interviews that kind of made me cringe at the idea about people who have no business making games to film when they don't really make a compelling reasoning to why this movie should be made and more important what make them think they can get away with it do it. So (Len) Wiseman goes on to say:

I suck at video games, it just takes me too long and I can’t get the coordination of ‘em. When I was on [live Free Or] Die Hard, I had to choose some video game for the background in a scene with Kevin Smith. I was shown about a dozen games and told to ‘Choose one to be in the background’ and I said ‘this one looks really, really cool whatever it is,’ and it was Gears Of War. I just really connected with it; the design of it the world, the whole thing. So I actually brought an Xbox 360 to start researching what it was.”

"Never played it .. it looks cool; let’s make a game movie out of it, whatever it is" is what I got out of it. And of course Len is a name dropping faggot; could have said he had to choose a game to display in the background of a scene for his movie - but its not as half as interesting a story if Kevin Smith wasn't mentioned. Everybody knows Kevin Smith IS the story dammit - but that's beside the point. So for the first time ever, Wiseman talked about his plans for adapting the 'Gears of War' franchise.

“It’s going to be much more [on the] science fiction side of it than the creature side of it. I’ve always been much more of a sci-fi action fan than a horror fan.”

Fair enough - he's even got a plan for this man-train space opus. But Gears kind of lends itself to horror quite a bit of a lot; it takes place in another world that happens to appear to be futuristic sci fi to someone NOT from that world.

“The hope is that were wanting to do a three movies and really cover the bases on everything. Basically a harder edged Lord Of The Rings.”

Okay - I think in the case of movies only talk about making three movies if you have three movies worth of resources and materials. Thus far I'd imagine the movie to be more or less 90 minutes of grizzled tough men shouting at the screen (and shooting guns) screaming "GET SOME!!! -GET SOME!!!! - GET SOME!!!!11!1!1". Besides I can't help but feel that when people compare their ideas to other movies; it’s more of a hope - and shows a lack of imagination. I talk about a project I don't like to compare what it is or like up front - Because it’s not. Why would I bust my ass to develop something that's already been done?

Speaking of which if these Gears of War movies are remakes of the game - So help me. As far as the (or any) particular direction that Wiseman wants to take with the movie is (possibly) Practical effects mixed with CG; Wiseman doesn’t exactly specify what or how in full detail but he does proclaim an interest in the new 3D technology.

“Yeah, I think about [3D technology] quite a bit, the more and more I get involved with these movies and the bigger they are the more you rely on CG effects to help you out. And you can do it properly; I’ve been a big fan of practical work and still am, it’s finding a way to incorporate them together.”

More on this as it develops ...

Original article can be found on Bloody-Disgusting.com - you know ... the HORROR Movie website.

Castlevania movie cancelled

Yeah, that's pretty much it with Castlevania - was supposed to have a 2006 start date and it didn't happen.

Meanwhile news is afoot on another Konami IP brand movie - the sequel to Silent Hill may be getting a boost afterall; not enough news to confirm though just yet.

Tekken: The Movie
« Reply #8 on: January 18, 2010, 10:08:31 AM »

Seriously the Tekken movie makes event fights shockingly stock and boring - but its somehow above and beyond better than the live action King of Fighters movie. It’s even going to save us the trouble of enduring it publicly by go straight to home video. That makes it a definite must-watch for any gamer!

Just to show you it's true - here's the Japanese poster for said Tekken movie.
